Via Rail Accident

Burlington Via Rail Derailment


This is the video showing the derailment of the Burlington Via rail train on Feb 26,2012. Three people were killed in the accident and many other passengers were injured badly. The reason for the derailment of the train was told to be the over speed of the train which lead to an accident.The train was changing the track and got derailed

Service Cuts

Marc Laliberte, President and Chief Executive Officer of VIA Rail Canada on June 27 announced a reduction in the service of its trains during the week and other services are reduced to achieve increase budget. It has also announced the cut of 200 jobs which is about the nine percent of its total work force. The trip frequencies are also being cut on some of big routes including Montreal to Halifax line. It is also announced that there will be number of reductions in south west Ontario where GO transit and other services are available to travellers London , Aldershot, kitchener ,niagara Falls and other cities will also face reduction in via service.

Classes of service-Sleeper Class


Sleeper class is also known as Comfort Sleeper. It is the class for late night passengers on lengthy routes it provides bedrooms to customers with different arrangements. It also provides private wash room and each sleeper class is equipped with shower. There is good arrangement of meals for passengers.

Business class of via rail also known as Via 1 class is the first class seating on via rail it offers passengers with individually reserved seats.The seats in business class are more spacious and includes 3 meals with complementary wine and liqueurs.It also includes Charging ports and Wi-Fi facility.The Business class passengers are given priority in boarding and other services.

VIA Rail is the operator of national passenger rail service. It operates up to 497 trains weekly on 12,500 kilometers of track from coast to coast and north to Hudson Bay.
